The Baja Divide is a personal project of Nicholas Carman and Lael Wilcox as a gift to the bikepacking community which is made possible with the generous support of these companies.
Advocate Cycles is a unique brand launched in 2015 that produces innovative steel and titanium bicycles and donates 100% of profits to advocacy organizations such as Adventure Cycling Association (ACA), People for Bikes, NICA, and IMBA. Lael rode the Advocate Cycles Hayduke for three months while researching the Baja Divide route in the winter of 2015-2016. Advocate Cycles offers two 27.5+ bikes well-suited to riding in Baja California, the Hayduke and the Seldom Seen. In 2018 Advocate Cycles closed, although the legacy continues with a new company called Esker Cycles, based in Minneapolis, MN.
Advocate Cycles is providing a 27.5+ bicycle for the “Lael’s Globe of Adventure” Women’s Scholarship and has pledged to offset expenses associated with route research, development, and publication.
Revelate Designs is the leading manufacturer of bikepacking luggage in the world. Lael Wilcox and Nicholas Carman have been using Revelate Designs equipment since 2011, for both long-distance tours and ultra-endurance races. Revelate Designs manufactures a wide range of equipment for everything from ultralight road touring and racing to loaded winter expeditions on the Iditarod Trail. All members of the Baja Divide research team used Revelate equipment. The company is based in Anchorage, AK.
