Baja Divide

The Baja Divide Goes Off!- January 2, 2017

On the same day that we published the Baja Divide route concept last spring, we posted information about a group start on January 2, 2017 from San Diego. Yesterday was that day. After more than a year of route development and planning for the group start, we are excited to see nearly 100 bright, smiling faces cross the border today.

The group assembled at Ruocco Park in San Diego between 7-8AM, with a casual roll out sometime after 8. We pedaled about 45 miles to the Barrett Junction Cafe where space was provided for camping and a huge meal awaited hungry riders. We screen printed the Baja Divide logo onto t-shirts and jackets and were able to provide riders with some useful goodies including a Baja Divide logo waterbottle, custom Revelate Designs Peso Purse, Slime tubeless sealant and tire plug kits, and a whole lot of awesome product from GU including tons of stroopwafels.

In the morning, most riders selected to stay for a breakfast buffet and continued with a short ride to the border. In Tecate, we assembled at noon in the public plaza in town for a group photo and some supportive words from our friend Hector, who works at the Baja California Department of Tourism.

Leaving Tecate, all riders will continue on their own journeys, making new friends, developing new skills, and hopefully, finally, getting some sun.

Thanks to Advocate Cycles and Revelate Designs for their continued support of the Baja Divide. This is a proud day for everyone involved.  Thanks Tim and Odia! Thanks Eric!
